In what was a first for Horris Hill, we played host to a chess competition that would have impressed the likes of Boris Spassky, Bobby Fischer and the Polgar sisters. Even Stockfish and Komodo would have cooked their chips. The standard was that high and the worthy winners emerged with honour. Under the umbrella of the English Primary School Chess Association, the National Primary Schools Chess Championships drew over 70 competitors to Horris Hill from a large number of schools. It was super event and a most enjoyable one for all.
The weekend had started with a Hide and Seek game for all those in school and Sunday had barely begun before we had a group out at a Laser Quest centre in Swindon. Another group took to the slope at Skiplex in Basingstoke whilst others were enjoying a trip to Newbury to see ‘Sing’ at the cinema. My thanks to all those involved.
