You have brains in your head, you have feet in your shoes. You can steer yourself in any direction you choose. You're on your own. And you know what you know. You are the guy who'll decide where to go.
Do boys like to perform?
Performance, whether in music or drama, will certainly build confidence and enthusiasm in your son. Horris Hill boys have enthusiasm and conficence in abundance and regularly win performance scholarships to public schools.
We measure the success of being an all-boys' school in a number of ways. One of these is to look at the enthusiasm our boys have for performing. Almost all our boys take individual music lessons as well as class music in our purpose-built Music School. Your son will have many opportunities to act, sing, or dance during his time at school in our formal productions and concerts, in the weekly form assemblies, or even our regular talent shows.
Your son will also have the opportunity to learn one or more musical instruments. We will encourage him to trial an instrument before he decides to take extra lessons. We also have a Chapel choir for which boys must audition. Our choir performs at internal and external events and visitors are often treated to the wonderful sound of choir rehearsals!
We have a well equipped stage which is used for our major productions during the year. Whether your son is a natural performer or not, he will certainly be involved in our performances. Maybe your son will be involved with the scenery, the lighting or even the sound effects - or maybe he will be playing a central part!
Your son will be given the opportunity to attend local theatre productions if he wants more performing experience. He will certainly enjoy trips to the Newbury Corn Exchange, The Watermill Theatre as well as the theatres in London, Oxford, and Southampton.
