Cricket
Cricket is the main sport of the summer term. All boys will play cricket for three or four sessions a week during this time.
To extend the more able and include the less able the boys work in carefully chosen groups based on age, interest and ability and are coached by enthusiastic, qualified and regularly trained members of staff or visiting specialists. These sessions all take place within our 70 acres of private, secluded, beautifully maintained grounds where we have a main grass cricket square plus six other prepared grass wickets, six all weather nets, 2 grass nets and three indoor nets. With four separate cricket pavilions the boys have plenty of space for storage and for cover if it rains!
We run cricket school teams for 1st XI, 2nd XI, 3rd XI, U11a, U11b, U11c, U9a & U9b and being such a small school we ensure nearly all boys have the opportunity to represent the school at cricket at least once each year. This combined with our philosophy of 'the performance and behaviour being more important than the result' are important factors in the development of the boys. The many fixtures that our school teams participate in are mostly against much larger local prep schools but despite this fact we usually seem to win our fair share.
NB – In all our sports, but particularly in cricket, I would like to stress that safety is paramount and that we all constantly work very hard together to balance minimising risks with allowing the freedom to experiment, improve and have fun.
