French
It is the aim of the Department to provide boys with the competence in the four skills, speaking, listening, reading, writing required for entry to their senior schools via the Common Entrance, Winchester Entrance or Public Schools Scholarship examinations.
The Junior Department follows a primarily oral/aural course based around La Jolie Ronde. The Middle and Senior boys follow Encore Tricolore, but this is enhanced by many in-house produced worksheets.
All boys in Year 8 are offered the opportunity to visit France for a French Experience based near Avranches.
Whilst developing linguistic competence is the first priority boys will also be encouraged to learn about the francophone world and to appreciate similarities with and differences from their own society.
