Physical Education

In addition to Games every afternoon every boy participates in timetabled PE lessons once a week in the mornings.

As well as having fun, building confidence and gaining experience the main aims of PE are to enable each boy to:

  • practice physical activities safely and show an awareness of how to assess any risks to themselves and others
  • experience enjoyment and satisfaction through physical activity
  • show a high level of personal interest and engagement
  • appreciate and understand the importance of hygiene and a healthy lifestyle
  • become aware of movement as a creative medium connected to communication, expression and aesthetic appreciation

The boys work in form groups of mixed ability and to extend the more able and include the less able they are taught by a very enthusiastic and fully qualified PE specialist. These lessons take place either in the large sport hall, the Astroturf, and in the summer, the outdoor swimming pool or the outdoor athletics facilities.

The PE programme tries to complement and add to the Games programme so is as follows:

Autumn Term: Fitness Tests, Gymnastics, Badminton, Volleyball, Music & Movement
Spring Term: Basketball, Hockey

Summer Term: Athletics, Swimming, Tennis
