Science

The department aims to promote curiosity and interest in science, as well as to consider the applications and the implications of scientific progress.

The boys learn science throughout the school. With the younger boys topics are studied using an investigative approach. The factual content is kept to a minimum and the emphasis is on the process of conducting a fair test and evaluating evidence.

Older boys continue to use experimental work to gain an understanding and knowledge of scientific ideas. All pupils gain experience using datalogging equipment to monitor experiments.

Throughout the school an emphasis is placed on acquiring practical skills. Boys are encouraged to learn to identify the potential risks of a practical subject and to work safely.

The science staff organise a number of trips throughout the year from which the boys benefit.
