Teaching Award Win for Horris Hill Teacher!

Mrs Bone, our brilliant Director of STEAM here at Horris Hill School in Newbury, has been awarded the prestigious Silver Award for Teacher of the Year in a Secondary School at this year’s Pearson National Teaching Awards!

Out of thousands of nominees, Mrs Bone has earned a well-deserved place among the Silver Award winners, and she now has the chance to win the highly sought-after Gold Award, which will be announced at a special ceremony later this year in London, and on BBC One’s The One Show.

Renowned for her creativity, energy, and deep passion for science, Mrs Bone’s teaching leaves a lasting impact on pupils at every stage of their learning journey. Whether she’s sparking curiosity in young children in the nursery or guiding senior scholarship pupils through advanced scientific concepts, her dynamic approach ensures that every lesson is exciting, engaging, and meaningful. Mrs Bone’s ability to make complex subjects fun and accessible helps her pupils not only grasp key scientific principles but also develop a lifelong love for learning.

Mrs Bone’s Silver Award recognition places her among 93 outstanding educators, support staff, and institutions who have been celebrated for their dedication and the lasting impact they’ve had on the lives of young people. The announcement comes during National Thank a Teacher Day on 18th June 2025, a nationwide event that shines a spotlight on the dedication of teachers and other education professionals who make a difference every day.

Sir Michael Morpurgo, author, former Children’s Laureate, and President of the Teaching Awards Trust, says: “The dedication and impact of those involved in educating young people is truly remarkable. Their influence extends well beyond the classroom - offering encouragement, inspiration, and unwavering support that can shape lives for years to come. That’s why National Thank a Teacher Day is an important opportunity to pause and celebrate all that they do.

"I’m also delighted to be able to congratulate this year’s Silver Award winners. Your passion and commitment to shaping the next generation is extraordinary. Thank you for the difference you make every single day."

The Pearson National Teaching Awards recognise those who go above and beyond in their commitment to education, and Mrs Bone’s recognition celebrates her tireless efforts to inspire and support students at Horris Hill.

Congratulations to Mrs Bone on this remarkable achievement!
