The Wild Child Charter
At Horris Hill School, we actively encourage children to explore their environment as a vital part of their development.
As an independent school set in 65 acres of beautiful grounds, we are uniquely placed to offer a rich and varied Outdoor Education programme that supports healthy bodies and minds, fosters social skills, boosts motivation and concentration, and nurtures a deep respect for the natural world and sustainability.
Our extensive natural environment is a powerful tool for sparking imagination, creativity, and curiosity. Whether building dens, investigating woodland habitats, or solving challenges as a team, pupils learn to work both independently and collaboratively. These experiences give them the opportunity to take appropriate risks, act with care, and take responsibility—all while having a lot of fun.
The Wild Child Charter
For pupils in the Lower School, Horris Hill School has developed the Wild Child Charter (click here to read!), which outlines what we believe to be the key experiences of a natural childhood. We aim for every child in the Lower School to enjoy these experiences before moving into Upper School Transition in Year 3.
Outdoor Education sessions run throughout the year and include activities such as den building and woodland exploration. One favourite location is a part of our woodland affectionately known as “Spain” due to its shape when viewed from above—so if your child comes home saying they’ve spent the day in Spain, they’re telling the truth!
