Why a Nursery Education?
There are many benefits for young children in attending a nursery, as it plays a key role in their early development and education.
At Horris Hill Nursery, located near Newbury in the heart of Berkshire, we believe nursery provision supports children in the following important ways:
-
Children learn new skills - children will learn a wide range of new skills, from language and physical skills to early understanding of a range of subjects like maths, sciences and technology. We hope parents will notice their child's skills develop during their time at Horris Hill Nursery.
-
Children's social skills - A Nursery enables your child to learn to socialise with other children and adults, which all aids their successful development. Learning how to listen to other people, solving disagreements and talking about your feelings will be learned at the Nursery.
-
Making friends - when your child joins Horris Hill Nursery they are in the perfect location to begin and form friendships with other children. They will be surrounded by children of a similar age, and can make connections with the use of role play and group games. Research has shown that this is the most important thing a child must learn in order to be happy and develop in their life.
-
Extracurricular activities - At Horris Hill Nursery we love to offer a wide range of extra activities and experiences for your child to discover. A full list for this year can be acquired from our admissions team.
-
Preparation for school - When your child joins the Horris Hill family in our Nursery, this is their first step in developing them as they move through to the main school. The Horris Hill Nursery moves the children through the steps to make them have the skills to be ready for when they start school.
A Typical Day in the Nursery
The nursery day begins with a Free Flow session for morning arrivals, before Circle Time at 9:15am. The next session varies throughout the week between sessions such as PE, or music.
After our morning snack, we move on to an activity together, before its time to go outside. Lunch is at midday, and Nursery join the Lower School (Years R – 2) in the school dining room for a nutritious hot meal.
Lunch is followed by Story Time, then once we’ve welcomed those joining us for the afternoon session, it’s back outside – with 65 acres of school grounds to explore we try and get outside as much as we can every day.
Our afternoon snack is followed by independent learning, another Storytime and then supper at 4:30pm. The Nursery day finishes at 6:00pm.
However, no day is the same, and we often have special events and sessions to bring some new excitement into the day.
We’d love to welcome you to see the Nursery in action.
